Our 9th Annual fund-raising Golf Tournament was held at Rocky River Golf Club, Concord on August 7th, 2022. Sponsored by premium corporates, e+ and NTT, supported by USG, KochaSoft, ServiceNow and 9 other sponsors, the highly anticipated tournament attracted a whopping 80 plus players, including 7 junior players, ready to tee off, in support of raising funds for charity. Favorable weather and a Dan Maples designed golf course with a layout that appeals to players, both amateurs and professionals, had the enthusiastic players warming up in the putting ground. Registration started at 11:00 am and a sumptuous lunch sponsored by Bawarchi and Barbeque by Carolina Barbeque was arranged for the players. The 4-person Captain’s Choice Tournament, kicked off with a Putting Competition, group photograph, and followed by a 1:00 pm shotgun.
Foursome team - Jackson Ray, Jordan Dunn, Anu Raghavan and Nick Katial carded 16 Birdies, two Eagles and recorded a total score of 54, to walk away with the top honors, while Greg Sauls, Elson Cornett, Kevin Welsh and Geoff Simmons took the second place carding 13 Birdies, one Eagle and a total score of 57, just three shots behind the winners. This year round, for the first time, Sangamithra Charity Golf Tournament held a special Women’s Flight. The response was heartwarming. Three Women’s teams participated in the tournament. One exciting and fun segment of the Tournament was the all new Golf Ball Launcher, which helps Charities to raise additional funds. Compressed air and dart golf balls are used in coordination with a ‘Closest to the pin’ contest held usually within two to three feet of the hole. The launcher is set up on a par 4 and players have to pay as individuals or as a foursome to participate. In case all the players in the team were to participate, then the team qualifies for a 12 feet Eagle putt. Around 63 players participated in the Golf Launcher. On Hole #17, the ‘closest to the pin’ award was won by a junior golfer Pradyun Menon. The money raised by the Golf Launcher programme was split with Sangamithra Foundation.
The Award ceremony was held at the Clubhouse, after play. Sangamithra Foundation’s video presentation of its vision, mission, various noble projects completed, and the projects in the pipeline to be executed for the benefit of the under-privileged, was viewed and appreciated by all. The Winners of both the Men’s and the Women’s Flight were awarded Trophies. A spokesperson of one of the main sponsors, NTT, addressed the gathering, applauded the players and Sangamithra Foundation, for organizing the Charity Tournament in a professional and organized way. ‘Closest to the Pin’ was scored by Aswini Mika on hole # 5 and Nicholas Zeller on hole #10. Longest Drives Joseph Ford on Hole #6 and Jasmine Young on Hole #13, Putting Competition was won by Greg Sauls. Raffle tickets and Mulligans were purchased by the players, to take part in the Raffle and win prizes. ‘Emerging Golfer’ Trophies were awarded to eight Junior Golfers in recognition of their participation and support for a good cause. Radhika Unnikrishnan, Parvathy Unnikrishnan, Jai Yalla, Bhav Lamba, Shanyu Gowdu, Jasmine Yeung and Pradyun Menon were the recipients of the ‘Emerging Golfer’ trophies.
